Few of us remember that noted filmmaker Anurag Basu started his career as a director of television serials. In fact, he had a very successful stint in television having done shows like Tara, Saturday Suspense and Love Story. The much acclaimed director – after a long list of big screen successes (Life in a Metro, Gangster and Murder) is back on television with a new show. It will be a compilation of short stories. “I have always been a huge fan of short stories – Ek Kahani on DD being my all-time favourite. I am trying to create a show with a number of short stories, but connected through a thread somewhere,” says the director whose next big ticket film Kites is up for release.
Basu is not restricting himself to Indian short stories. “If O’ Henry gives me two base stories, Tagore will connect the two. I am yet to finalise the casting and the channel,” he explains.
The director also clears the air about rumours suggesting he has replaced Shekhar Kapur on India’s Got Talent season 2. “I have not been approached for the show and I am not judging it this year though I was offered it last year, but I did not want to take it up.”
