Ashita Dhawan: Maintaining Health Also Needs Wealth

Ashita

MUMBAI: Actress Ashita Dhawan, who has been part of shows like Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Imlie, Krishna Mohini, and Mera Balam Thanedaar, and is currently seen in Prem Leela on Dangal, says that it's important to have a stable financial foundation in order to take care of your health. She adds that while she makes sure to work hard and take care of her health, at times, work life takes precedence.

“You know, there’s this saying, ‘health is wealth,’ but do we ever realise that maintaining health also needs wealth? I work hard and spend full days on set, and I’m not a morning person at all, so it gets really difficult for me to wake up and work out. My call time is usually late, and I sleep late too because I truly believe in enjoying my life to the fullest. If I’m working all day, then I must find some time to enjoy it too. So in this constant battle between health and wealth, wealth always wins for me. It becomes more important because earning well lets me take care of my health in other ways. Since I can’t go to the gym regularly or do proper workouts, I make sure to start my day with two simple but powerful things that help build immunity and strength,” she says.

Ask her how she takes care of her health, and she says, “I take a morning shot of one orange along with black pepper, kacchi haldi (raw turmeric), and ginger, as my grandma always said this is great for immunity. I take it as a shot. I also have ash gourd and amla juice. Ash gourd is packed with vitamins and has so many health benefits. It’s especially good for the lungs and the entire body system. There’s one more thing I do — I always consume raw jeera before every meal. It helps reduce inflammation, improves digestion, and clears blockages. These are my ways of keeping my health in check, even on busy days.”

We all know health is important, but most of us don’t change our lifestyle as we should, given the fast pace of competition, work pressures, and deadlines. She adds, “Yes, I know there’s work pressure and a lot of competition around. So, you know, many times we end up ignoring our health. We just go with the flow. But honestly, I don’t believe in planning too far ahead. What’s the point? You never really know what will happen tomorrow, who will be there and who won’t. So what I do is simple — I try to balance my eating and focus on the present moment. I want to enjoy life to the fullest. If I’m gone tomorrow, at least I won’t have any regrets like ‘Oh, I wish I had done this or that.’ So yes, mindful eating and maintaining a stable mindset are two things that really keep me going in this fast and tough life of Mumbai. Don’t plan so much that you forget to enjoy what’s happening right now, because who knows what tomorrow will bring.”

She adds, “Slowing down is important — though honestly, even I struggle to follow that. I’m constantly on the verge of doing something. I feel like I just can’t sit idle. I always need to be doing something or the other. Even when I’m at home, it’s very rare that I just sit back, relax, and do nothing. Somehow, I always end up starting some work, which I know isn’t always the right thing to do. Of course, I’m also learning. Slowing down is a process. But somewhere deep down, I feel like if I slow down, the world will move ahead without me. And that fear keeps pushing me. I don’t want to miss even a single minute of living a happy and fulfilling life. I want to do everything, experience everything. I want it all. Right now, my entire focus is just on living fully, without holding back. That’s all that matters to me.”
