MUMBAI: Indian television shows have been a part of the audience's daily lives for a long time now. Over the course of time, the type and platform of content changed a lot but people still wish to go back to the television dramas and call it their comfort zone.
Isha Malviya is coming back to Colors TV’s Udaariyan and will play a double role. She played Jasmine earlier and now would also play Jasmine’s daughter on the show.
Times have changed but some things never change. This started way back when the same actor was playing the double role, one of the parents and the other of their own kid. This is still happening.
Here are a few more examples of such actors and shows in which the actors have played the double role of their character and their child:
Tejasswi Prakash in Naagin 6- She plays the double roles of Pratha, the mother and Prarthna, Pratha’s daughter.
Tina Dutta in Uttaran- She played a double role in the show, her old character, Iccha, and her daughter, Meethi.
Mouni Roy in Naagin- In the second season she has returned as herself and her daughter Shivangi.
Ankita Lokhande in Pavitra Rishta- Post the leap, Ankita Lokhande portrayed Archana and Archana’s grand-daughter.
Vivian Dsena in Madhubala- He played the superstar RK, his look alike KRK and when the show took a leap, he also played KRK’s son.

The netizens feel that the makers are lousy and don’t bring in fresh faces for the characters. They prefer a double role over fresh faces. The audience feels that this tactic is quite old and makes them lose connection with the character. Here is what they have to say:
Priyanshi Singh: I feel when a show runs for a certain amount of time; one gets connected to the characters and their stories. When new characters are introduced in the plot, we hope to see new faces as well because when the same face plays two roles, the connection gets lost. We have seen the character’s journey and now feels weird trying to connect to it differently.
Mansi Panjwani: I find it lack of hardwork on the part of the makers that they don’t bring in fresh faces for new characters or maybe it is the actor’s greed that they wish to stay on the show even after the plot is moving ahead.
Kavya Shah: Even with changing times, why doesn’t the pattern of the Indian shows work. Till date, we see actors playing double roles of their own characters and their children's as well. There are so many people out there who audition and don’t get in and then there are these actors who get to play double roles when there is scope to bring in new faces.
Prajakta Mehra: There are so many struggling actors who die to get work and when the creators get a chance to bring in new talent, they cast the same old people again in the same show. This is quite unfair and unnecessary. We wish to see new faces instead of the same faces in multiple characters.
