MUMBAI: It is every actor’s dream to be remembered for their screen portrayals, to become synonymous with the characters they have essayed. Cezanne Khan believes that he is indeed lucky in this regard.
And why not? Even after 13 years, he continues to be remembered as the OG Anurag Basu in the first season of Kasautii Zindagii Kay (KZK). Now, he has returned to TV with Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, after a hiatus of 12 years and has stepped into Vivian Dsena’s shoes to play the new Harman.
Tell him that people still remember him as Anurag Basu despite his decade-long absence, and he says, “Yes, I am still on people’s minds, but I have not decoded the reason. It’s just God’s mercy. I can’t take credit for it, as it is not in my hands. What I can control is how I play a character and maintain my fitness level.”.
Ask him why he chose to make a comeback with an ongoing show instead of a new project, and Cezanne replies, “I loved my role, and that’s the only reason I took up the show. When you see the graph of the character, you will understand what I am talking about.”.
Cezanne adds that he is not worried about the inevitable comparisons with Vivian, who played Harman for over three years. The actor shares, “Every actor has a unique style. I have not watched any of the previous episodes of the show and have joined it with a clean slate. I am sure Vivian performed well, as he is a good actor. But, I am going to bring something different to the show and I hope that people like it. I don’t bother about the ratings and comparisons or else I won’t be able to concentrate on my work. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just want to work hard on my character.”.
Facing the arc lights after 12 years must be quite intimidating. So, was he nervous? “There was mild anxiety, but the excitement of facing the camera helped me overcome it. Having said that, it did take me a day to settle in. On the second day, I felt that I was never away. Also, I leave everything to the director. I simply follow his instructions. The medium has advanced a lot technologically, and it has been a learning experience.”, he said.
