MUMBAI: Ekta Kapoor is a name taht changed the face of Indian Television. From starting her career at the age of 17 as an intern to becoming the most successful producer, TV czarina Ekta Kapoor has come a long way and she recalls her earlier days after receiving 'Bemisaal Rishta' award during an award function. Though she started her career in the entertainment industry very early, her first successful show was the 1995 sitcom 'Hum Paanch'. Later in 2000, her show 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' became the most successful TV serial.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Beyond being a soap opera, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was a phenomenon in its own right. With its dramatic twists and turns, it entertained fans for eight years, setting the standard for daily soap operas in India. The strength of the show came from its ability to blend societal satire with realistic family dynamics. The actress Smriti Irani, who is currently a politician, gave a strong portrayal of Tulsi Virani, the archetypal perfect daughter-in-law.

Kasautii Zindagi Kay

Ekta Kapoor's Kasautii Zindagii Kay, a youth phenomenon, reinvented romance for Indian television. The love story of Anurag Basu (Cezanne Khan) and Prerna Sharma (Shweta Tiwari) captured viewers' attention from the moment the show debuted on Star Plus in 2001. Their dramatic and unusual love story was full of social pressures, heartbreaking sacrifices, and forbidden desires. They encountered several challenges on their quest, including deceitful plans from the vampire Komolika (Urvashi Dholakia) and disapproving relatives.

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii

Ekta's popular daily soap opera Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii was another one of hers. Sakshi Tanwar as Parvati and Kiran Karmakar as Om, the show's major leads, became well-known and made a lasting impression on Indian television history. Viewers found the serial to be engaging due to its excellent acting and intriguing plot.

Kkusum

With Kkusum, a Sony TV series that veered away from her lavish family dramas, Ekta Kapoor tried something new. The main character of this middle-class drama was Kusum (Nausheen Sardar Ali), a sympathetic lead negotiating daily challenges. Later on, the story turned to her daughter Kumud (Aashka Goradia), illustrating the struggles and triumphs experienced by people of different generations. In this endearing story, Anuj Saxena, as Abhay Kapoor, provided a solid male protagonist.

Kaahin Kissii Roz

Not to mention, Kaahin Kissii Roz, which starred the legendary Sudha Chandran, Yash Tonk, and Mouli Ganguly, was a fantastic movie. Here, Chandran's portrayal of Ramola Sikand—sophisticated, sly, and unforgettable—redefined the vamp cliché. With a plot that saw Mouli's character suffer a horrifying double murder at the hands of Ramola and then return (again!) for vengeance, the drama stretched limits. The mystical components in this dramatic idea proved to be a winning combination for Kaahin Kissii Roz, opening doors for Ekta Kapoor's subsequent fanciful endeavors.
