Tej Sapru is currently seen in the show Harphoul Mohini on Colors playing the role of Balwant Choudhary.
TellyChakkar got in touch with the actor to talk about his favorite character and returning back to the big screen with a blockbuster.
You have played a lot of marvelous characters in your long career, which one would you say has been your personal favorite?
Currently, the character that I am playing in Harphoul Mohini is one who is absolutely crazy and he is definitely a negative character. I have actually done many characters for so many shows and all of them have been nice. I have also liked the character of Gafur Ahmed Sidique and my character in Chandragupta Maurya, so there have been a lot of good roles, and even Dil Se Dil Tak is a story between a grandfather and son. I only do the roles if I like the characters. If I don’t like the roles I don’t do them.
What about your character Balwant in Harphoul Mohini, how do you perceive him, and what new twists and turns can we expect from him on the show?
When they told me about the character and narrated it to me, I thought the character was really powerful and he is an absolutely mad guy. I have great reviews as well, my wife’s friends used to be praise me a lot in real life but after watching this character they were worried and used to ask her if I was like that in real. I hoped I have lived up to the madness of the character. The thing about such a role is sometimes I don’t know how what Balwant will do next. Even when I am playing him, I have discussed how to approach him because we also want to show him as a dynamic character, so I do try and add a touch of situational comedy if the scene requires it. But at the end, it is the unpredictable nature of the character that makes him so exciting.
Films and movies have played a major part in your career, and language has been not been a barrier, when can we see you back on the big screen for a Hindi film?
I am doing a movie with Salman Khan Productions called Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and I am returning to hindi movies after a little while. It has been a wonderful experience because he is just a great human being and a great producer. He has been generous and gracious with scale of the production and it was a lot of good fun doing this movie.
