Gul Bano on DD

A new show titled Gul Bano is slated for the afternoon slot on DD from 20 July. The show which has a Muslim backdrop is produced by Pramod Kapoor and is directed by Sanjay Savitri who is a celebrated director on Marathi television. Actress Sujata K will play mother to Sooraj Thapar in the show. The lead of the show is Sunila who is currently playing the lead in the Marathi daily Char Divas Sasu Che that airs on ETV Marathi. Talking about her character Sujata says, “I am playing Shakila Yaqoob Khan who comes from a very liberated Muslim family. Benjamin Gelani is playing my husband and Sooraj Thapar is essaying the role of my son. It is a challenge to all of us as we have to use chaste Urdu but now it has become one big Urdu speaking family.” Talking about her experience of working with DD, the actress says, “The beauty of working on DD is that you are given the liberty of retaining your natural performance. You are not pressurised to add drama to the show. I have done a couple of episodes of Aap Beeti that used to air years ago on DD and things have not changed even a bit. It’s the same smooth sailing on the channel as it was earlier.”
