MUMBAI : Hina Khan created history for Indian TV actors in 2019 when she debuted at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival and released the poster for her film, Lines. She made a trip back to the French Riviera in 2022 to launched the poster for her Indo-English movie, Country of Blind. Her fashion selections on the red carpet turned heads on both occasions. With the 77th edition of the film festival drawing to an end, the popular news portal had a conversation with Hina Khan. Hina admits that she wishes she could have missed being part of it this year.
“How much I missed being at Cannes this year! Both the times I went with my films. So, when I’ve a film, I’ll go again. I really enjoy dressing up and I know a lot of people in Cannes. I know that I’ve the opportunity to wear such amazing gowns. It’s just that I’m not there! I miss that. I know so many photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists and designers. I know that if I went there, everything would just click,” she said.
For the unversed, Hina’s debut appearance at the film gala was much talked about as a senior film journalist’s ‘Cannes has suddenly become Chandivali studios kya’ comment stirred a controversy, drawing flak from many including her peers in the television industry. Hina later also spoke about how it hurt her.
Much like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sobhita Dhulipala who represented brands this year at the Cannes Film Festival, Hina doesn’t mind going there again with a brand. “On this international carpet, people showcase high fashion and glam but at the same time, the festival is known for films. If I get an opportunity again, I would love to go. I don’t want to go just for the heck of it. Maybe I’ll go again in a couple of years. I might also go there for a brand,” she states.
“I couldn’t keep a tab on this edition but I did see some looks and they were all nice. But I really liked Nancy (Tyagi). She did so well and I’m so proud of her,” she stated.
Nancy, a self-taught stylist and designer, has more than 1.7 million Instagram followers as of the moment. Her intricately designed red carpet outfits won her hearts, particularly the 20 kg weighty pink gown she stitched herself.
The Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai star praises her for creating and promoting affordable fashion, “We’ve some big designers and labels in the fashion industry here. But how many people can actually afford their outfits? Maybe only ten percent of our country can. Nancy really helps them by creating similar pieces. She stitches each piece and puts in a lot of effort. And people can buy those outfits at half the price. She’s catering to many, who cannot afford those expensive pieces of clothing.”
