I felt dumb doing certain things on TV - Nishant Malkani

Nishant Malkani
Nishant Malkani of Ram Milayi Jodi is a happy man these days, as his calculated risk of leaving TV for cinema has paid off. He had quit the above Zee TV show three years back when it was the # 2 on the channel. The young lad had gone on to shoot for three films of which the first titled Horror Story produced by Vikram Bhatt released this Friday. Talking about the plot he says, “We a group of friends (Karan Kundra, Hassan Zaidi and Aparna Bajpai) decide to spend a night in a haunted hotel and how the ‘chudail’ who stays there wrecks death and havoc all around forms the crux of the story.” Explaining his shift from TV to films, Nishant explains, “To the shock and surprise of many, I let go the per day (making money every day) temptation as I wanted to satisfy the actor within. I was not happy with the daily soap schedule of working where there are no scripts; you keep doing scenes which are written at the last minute by the channel. I don’t blame anyone as you have to meet telecast deadlines, and producers don’t want to pay penalties. Hence no one really cares about the story or characters. At times I felt dumb doing certain things, but I was helpless as I was bound by the contract.” “Therefore I decided to take a break and try my hands at cinema. What also worked in my favour was that as I had the age on my side. That meant I could try my luck on the big screen, failing which I could always come back on TV,” says this 25 years old. Here Nishant adds that, “I was lucky to have entered Bollywood at a time when producers are ready to work with newcomers, for they have confidence in their stories. Many films makers don’t want to work with the likes of Aamir Khan, Salman Khan etc., for they don’t have the patience to deal with the date issues and other frills which come with big names. Sometimes the expense of the actor’s support stuff is much higher than normal actors. Hence directors prefer newcomers who will give all the time and attention to a single project.” After Horror Story, Nishant has two other projects which are in various stages of production both of which will see the light of day next year (2014). “I play a love guru (Love Training) to Shakti Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav and Akhilendra Mishra in one of them. I also might start working on three other films soon.” In closing the Delhi boy Nishant does not discount a return to TV. “I am open to anything on the small screen which does not compromise on quality. Projects like 24 are well planned and executed. They have adequate time on hand and the whole thing is shot on a seasonal format.” Nishant, we wish you have a great plunge to Bollywood.
