“In school, I did a theater workshop which was my first orientation with the fascinating world of performance. Personally, I love it when the curtains go down and people rise and clap for you. The adulation is euphoric,” says Samir.

Samir has a voice that can hypnotize you. He is tall, good-looking and a thorough gentleman. The hunk from Delhi believes that life plays its part and he had to become a part of the media industry.
“In school, I did a theater workshop which was my first orientation with the fascinating world of performance. Personally, I love it when the curtains go down and people rise and clap for you. The adulation is euphoric,” says Samir.
The actor came to Mumbai in the year 2000 and since then has been climbing up on the ladder of success. He first came under the public eye after deciding to host the sex-chat show, Dangerous, on Zoom.
“I was 21-22 then and I was not petrified to talk about sex. But the show was more than just discussing sex as I realised that actually we were providing sex education. We talked about safe sex, taking precautions, monogamy and what not. We used to get lot of calls from people.”
So would he host a similar show at this point of his career? “No, I don’t think. I have preached a lot about sex. Now I think I should focus on something else,” smiles Samir.
He has been a part of few films as well, namely Zeher, Jannat, Bold, Chase et al. “I am an actor and preparing for a big scene to enact in front of the camera gives me a high. But when I came to Mumbai I was unprepared and did not know much about the industry. But it is good to burn your finger at times for you learn what to do and what not to.”
However, his popularity shot up after he started hosting seasons of IPL.
“I am hosting the upcoming one as well. It will be my fifth season. Of course, I am doing something good, that’s why they are calling me again and again (smiles). When I was offered the first season, I was apprehensive as I wanted to establish myself as an actor. But they said it was more about cricket made fun. I, being a cricket enthusiast, finally gave my nod and the rest is history. I am looking forward to another cracking season of IPL.”
We know you will rock, Samir. Moving on, he has been the host of Survivor India on Star Plus as well. He shares his experience…
“I have lived the series. It has been a wonderful experience. I don’t understand the concept of numbers, so can’t really say why the show did not do well in terms of TRPs. But I think it is a new format and it will take time to pick up. I am sure its second season (whenever it happens) will be bigger and better.”
When not working, Samir watches movies, plays online games and strums on his guitar. He is happily married to his long time girlfriend Radhika who is very “lovely”, “understand” and “considerate”.
So any plans to have a baby soon? “No, not yet. Pehle main to bada ho jaoon.”
Finally, he has this message for everyone who comes to Mumbai to make it big in the world of entertainment, “Do your research and come prepared. And if you can sustain the initial two years of struggle in Mumbai, the city will give you more than you can recover,” he ends.
