I was waiting for the right opportunity to make my television debut - Tulip Joshi

Tulip Joshi
Tulip Joshi charmed the world with her striking good looks and acting talent through her debut movie Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. After the commercial YRF hit, the actress went on to win some critical acclaim for her performances in Dhoka and Matrubhoomi. For now, she has turned her attention towards the small screen and will soon be seen in Star Plus’ Airlines (Miditech Productions), a fiction series that will present the life and challenges of people working in the aviation industry. Tulip, who is essaying the lead female role of Ananya Rawat, is understandably elated about her debut television venture. Shares Tulip, “The story will present the tale of Ananya Rawat and chronicle her journey right from her first day in office to all the challenges she face in the aviation industry. Apart from the glamour and glitz, what will closely bind people to the show is its emotional content. We as Indians are very close to our family and Ananya who is a righteous person will fight all odds to keep her beliefs strong.” Quiz her on why she thinks Airlines is the best project to make her television debut, Tulip says, “Each episode is like a short film and I find that very exciting. The look is very refreshing and most importantly the content has never been seen before on Indian television. The story is a metaphor of a girl in a man’s world. How a modern woman lives her dreams and balances family and career will make for a very entertaining series. Also the show has some mind-blowing drama that will keep the audiences hooked to their screens.” Given that Airlines is not your regular run-of-the mill saas-bahu saga, Tulip didn’t mind indulging in her own bit of research to prepare for her role. Says Tulip, “I did a bit of homework for the project by watching some videos of pilots on work. I also visited a few aircrafts and checked out the cockpit to get a feel of my character.” As an actor, Tulip considers both small and big screen equally important and exudes confidence at working in both mediums. For her, it’s the character that makes all the difference and not the medium. “As an actor I am confident of working in any given medium. Even when we are speaking, a camera could be rolling and turning that into film. So one should just enjoy their work rather than thinking about the medium factor,” explains Tulip. While Tulip has been a part of both rom-coms and hard hitting social dramas, the actress doesn’t mind being a part of the quintessential Indian family drama. “I have never planned my life and neither do I intend to. I believe in the ‘never say never’ attitude for whenever we feel we won’t do something, it actually happens to you (laughs). Acting is my passion and I would continue doing it. I have earlier been approached for many TV shows, but I was waiting for the right opportunity. But now post Airlines; I will see what lies ahead in the show.” Airlines will take off on Star Plus on 24 August at 9 pm.
