Speaking about her acting career, Aakanksha said, “My acting career started because there was a passion for becoming an actor in me. I used to sit in the bathroom for hours and mimic or mouth random dialogues in front of the mirror, while my mother would shout at me for occupying the place for so long. But TV happened by chance. My theatre teacher told me about this audition taking place in Jaipur and I went to give it, but it didn’t happen. However, a year later the same producers contacted me for this show they were making. I just recorded an audition for it and they really liked it. I got selected for the role in the next eight days in which they even asked me to shift to Mumbai. As for films, when I stopped doing TV after my first show, the actor within me wanted to explore more and for my own satisfaction, I realized I had to move on and do something different.
So, when I got a call from the South, I loved the script I was narrated and thus started my journey in films there. I did Badrinath Ki Dulhania for my own experience as I wanted to explore more. I did not want to be stuck in one thing for long as it requires a lot of patience but the artiste in me didn’t have that. I wanted to play different characters.
I am taking it slow because my motto is to do good work, and I am fortunate that I am getting those opportunities. It’s no more just about running around the trees or supporting the male actors. Female characters have so much to do today. I really believe in quality over quantity and I am loving my career graph right now. For an actor like me, the medium or language don’t matter. It’s all about good work.”
What are your future projects?
“I have a bilingual film coming this year titled Clap which will release in Tamil and Telugu, where I play a Hockey player. I have another Telugu film, Shivlu, where I play a teacher. I also have an anthology in the pipeline titled Meet Cute. I also have another project that I am shooting for in Lucknow right now, but I can’t talk anything about it. It is really exciting though. Everything is going well personally and professionally for me and my family. I just hope to move forward from here, do better and more roles so that the audience gets to see more of Aakanksha.”
