MUMBAI: In India, countless dreamers from small towns aspire for a brighter future. While education, sports, and the arts open doors to these dreams, the journey to the big city often brings unforeseen challenges that test resilience. Zee TV, known for its legacy of narrating inspiring and relatable stories, is all set to present such a story with its latest show - Saru—a compelling narrative about a young girl who dares to dream beyond her small-town limits.

Saru’s world is deeply rooted in her village, Kharas in Rajasthan, a place she cherishes. But with no means to pursue higher education there, she is left with no choice but to step away from everything familiar and chase her aspirations in the city while battling her biggest obstacle: convincing her mother, who is firmly opposed to letting her go.

After the introduction of Mohak Matkar in the lead role, the show now welcomes the dynamic and talented Anushka Merchande, who steps into the world of Saru as Anika—a rich, stylish, arrogant in approach, and self-absorbed young woman who will bring an unmistakable edge to the narrative. Anika enjoys being the centre of attention and has a strong dislike for Saru. She leaves no stone unturned in her attempts to pull Saru down. Her presence will bring in sharp conflict and unpredictability, making her a significant antagonist catalyst in the unfolding drama.

Sharing her enthusiasm, Anushka Merchande said, “I’m incredibly excited and grateful to be part of Zee TV’s upcoming show Saru. What drew me instantly to this show was its grounded storytelling and how honestly it captures the drive of young women who simply want a better future for themselves—especially through education. It’s rare to come across a script that feels powerful. Anika, the character I will portray is bold, image-conscious, emotionally volatile, and driven by her own need to always come out on top. She adds disruption and unpredictability to Saru’s journey, becoming a pivotal part of the drama.”

She further added, “What excites me the most is the opportunity to push my limits with this role. Anika constantly challenges me—not just emotionally, but also in how I understand her complexities and shifting motivations. I truly believe Saru will touch hearts and start conversations, and I’m proud to be part of a show that champions ambitions and the courage to dream.”

As Saru works towards her goals, the audience will watch Anika adding hurdles in her way and scheming against her, to make sure Anika is the centre of attention. Will Anika succeed in her plans to sabotage Saru and come in the way of her dreams?

Produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions Pvt. Ltd., Saru is set to premiere soon only on Zee TV!
