Jamai No. 1 actor Jinal Jain: "Respect is a Priority, Whether It’s Any Industry"

MUMBAI: Actress Jinal Jain, known for her role as Simran in Jamai No. 1, firmly believes that while the television industry has been evolving over the years, there are still significant areas that require improvement—especially when it comes to respect and equality. According to her, the industry has made progress, but there is still work to be done to ensure a fair and just environment for everyone, particularly women. As Women’s Day approaches, Jinal reflects on the importance of celebrating women not just on a single day but every day.

When asked about the women who inspire her, Jinal expressed deep admiration for the strong female figures in her life. “The women in my life have played a crucial role in shaping me into the person I am today. Their strength, resilience, and wisdom have always guided me. I believe that every woman who dares to challenge norms, break barriers, and stand up for herself and others is an inspiration,” she shared.

Speaking about how women are portrayed on television, Jinal acknowledged that storytelling on the small screen has undergone a transformation, though there is still room for improvement. She pointed out an interesting element in her show Jamai No. 1 that sets it apart from traditional narratives. “Yes, television shows are definitely evolving. What’s unique about our show is that we have a male character at the center of the story who changes the dynamics. Jamai No. 1 brings a fresh perspective to storytelling with the concept of Ghar Jamai. It’s interesting to see how different narratives are being explored, offering the audience a variety of viewpoints,” she explained.

On the issue of gender-based pay disparity in television, Jinal candidly acknowledged that it remains an ongoing concern. “It’s still an issue,” she admitted. “While there have been improvements and efforts to create a more balanced industry, there is still a long way to go before we achieve true equality. Women in the industry are working just as hard, if not more, and they deserve to be compensated fairly for their talent and dedication.”

As Women’s Day approaches, Jinal emphasized that more than just a symbolic celebration, real change needs to be implemented in the industry. She highlighted one fundamental shift she hopes to see. “Respect is a priority, whether it’s any industry,” she stated firmly. “Women deserve to be valued for their work, their contributions, and their talent—not just celebrated on a single day. True progress will come when respect and equality are ingrained in the system, not just observed as a formality.”
