MUMBAI: Television heartthrob Hitesh Bharadwaj, best known for his impactful roles in Udaariyaan and Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, is now captivating audiences in an entirely new avatar.
The actor has taken on the lead role of Ayaan Roy Chaudhry in Sony TV’s latest supernatural thriller Aami Dakini, a show that marks a genre shift for Indian television and promises to keep viewers on edge.
In an exclusive conversation with TellyChakkar, Hitesh opened up about how he came on board, his initial hesitation, and how a nostalgic trip down memory lane led him back to the iconic horror show Aahat — which served as the inspiration behind Aami Dakini.
You’re back with a gripping thriller. How did you land the role in Aami Dakini?
“Initially, the production team reached out to me, but I turned it down as the shoot was scheduled to take place in Kolkata. At the time, I wasn’t ready to relocate from Mumbai. However, when plans changed and the shooting moved to Mumbai, I reconsidered. I already had a couple of shows lined up post Ghum Hai Kisi Ke Pyar Meiin, but this one stood out. The concept felt refreshing. We haven't seen a proper thriller like this on Indian television in a long time, and that drew me in.”
The show takes inspiration from Aahat. Did you revisit the classic before shooting?
“Absolutely! I watched the first episode again and was stunned to see Ashutosh Rana in it. That really stayed with me. After Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, I had been revisiting a lot of older shows, just to see the craft and the storytelling styles of the past. Watching Aahat again made me chuckle now, but back in the day, we were genuinely terrified! Seeing someone like Ashutosh Rana in it was deeply inspiring — it reminded me that even a small role, if done with sincerity, can turn into something unforgettable. It reinforced my belief in working hard every single day.”
As Hitesh takes on the mysterious and layered character of Ayaan in Aami Dakini, fans are eager to see him explore a genre he hasn’t dabbled in before.
With a compelling storyline, a gothic backdrop, and a dash of nostalgia, the show is already stirring excitement and Hitesh’s performance is undoubtedly one to watch out for.
