From winning Boogie Woogie in 2007, dancer Jay Kumar Nair has come a long way to participate in Dance India Dance (DID) and turning choreographer to little known dancers in DID Li’l Masters.
But in spite of the huge experience, the choreographer is having a hard time teaching the chores of dancing to Darsheel Safary and Avneet Kaur in Colors’ dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
Jay is fond of kids and loves being around them. But, when it comes to handling Darsheel and Avneet, he does not know what to do. “They fight a lot,” admits the chorographer.

In fact, Jay has been having throat issues ever since he started
teaching these kids as he tells us, “I have been sounding different for almost ten weeks now because of continuous yelling and shouting at the kids,” he states.
Does he shout because they do not perform well? “No, they are very good performers but at the same time, they are very mischievous. While fighting with each other, they scream and shout on top of their voices. So in order to stop them, I have to scream even louder. This has affected my throat very badly. Even now, if you happen to check my bag, you will find tonics and medicines for the same,” observes Jay.
Ask him the reasons for their fights to which he replies, “There are no particular reason as such. After their mischief turn into fights, they stop practicing. Being elder to Avneet, Darsheel is able to understand at times, but then he too behaves like a ten year old, instead of a fifteen year old sometimes.”
But the choreographer does not forget to mention the hard work these kids have been putting in week-after-week. “They have been bunking school and practicing day and night for the show. If this is not it, at times Darsheel, tells me that, gets up in-between his sleep, practices and again goes back to sleep. By this, you must have known the kind of pressure these kids have been going through. I want them to be in top three,” he exclaims.
We are with you Jay Kumar. Get well soon.
