Mahi Way is the best thing that ever happened to me: Monica Khanna

Monica Khanna
TV audiences might remember Monica Khanna as the flirty and out spoken Roshni in YRF Television’s Mahi Way or as the psychic killer Kanchan in Colors’ Sabki Jodi Wohi Banaata... Bhagyavidhaata. Now they will see her as a simple and sober girl, Swati, in Zee TV’s upcoming show, Afsar Bitiya. “I play the elder sister to the lead girl (Krishna-Mitali Nag) who wants to become a BDO (Block Development Officer). Due to dowry issues, Swati is unable to get married. Not only this, the society considers her a burden,” Monica tells Tellychakkar.com. “One of the main reasons for taking up this role was that it gives me a chance to showcase my versatility,” says this model turned actress from Delhi. She feels that her Mahi Way fans might not be easily able recognize her in this new character as it is rooted in rural Bihar. “But my fans from Bhagyavidhaata will be able to relate to it as the Colors’ show was based in the same state,” she says. While Bhagyavidhaata was a popular daily, Mahi Way did not work well with audiences. But Roshni considers it to be the best thing that ever happened to her. “I guess in today’s time where dailies rule the roost, people don’t have the patience to wait for a week for the next episode to go on air. And may be the urban audiences, who were the primary targets, were not at home at weekends,” says Monica. For information, Mahi Way aired only on Friday. “But having said, I would also add that we were a rage on the internet,” she reveals. Monica played the protagonist’s best friend in the show. This Sony show promised a comeback, but Monica doesn’t think so. In fact, she rubbishes the news. “I have not heard anything from the producers to that effect. But if it does come back, then I will be the happiest person on earth. And if it does not, it doesn’t matter as my character Roshni has been etched in people’s heart anyways,” she signs off.
