MUMBAI: Actor Romel Raj Krishna has been seen in some extremely popular shows in the likes of Saavi Ki Savaari and Saubhagyavati Bhava: Niyam Aur Shartein Laagu. He was part of historical drama Swaraj too. While he has appeared in cameo performances, he has got a breakthrough on television in the role of an antagonist in Meetha Khatta Pyaar Hamara on Star Plus.

How do you feel about playing negative roles?
As an actor, rather than focusing on whether the character is negative or positive, I see what the character is adding to the story. Such negative characters can be seen around us in our real lives as well. My effort is to understand the psyche of that character and play it with honesty. The audience might not agree with the point of view of the character on moral grounds but they should still recognize and relate with a little bit of it.
TV actors mostly complain about getting typecast. What are your thoughts on the same?
That is something I have heard a lot. I'm fairly new in this journey so frankly, right now I'm not bothered by it much. But I'll definitely want to do more diverse roles and pick projects accordingly that satisfy my artistic cravings.
What kind of roles do you enjoy playing?
Again, as an actor I'd want to portray diverse roles. I want to bring as many characters to life as possible so that more and more people out there can relate to me and can see themselves represented on the screen. Having said that, one of the roles I'd really like to play would be of a sportsman. I've been into different sports since childhood and that is a genre that I really enjoy as an audience as well.
