Clad in simple jeans and red top with a jersey, a sling bag and gladiators completing the ensemble, Somya Seth, my young and lovely guest for the evening at Only Parathas in Khar, arrived. A true blue Punjabi from Amritsar, the owner Anil Singh Arora and she got along well discussing food and other common topics from their hinterland as we were served mouth-watering appetizers like Paneer Blast, heart-shaped Veg Pattice with typically Amritsari chutney and lipsmacking chole, Dahi and Paani puris and Cheese Croquettes (Jalapeno Poppers). The restaurant more than 100 varieties of stuffed parathas with tongue-tingling subzis to go with them. Italian and Chinese cuisines too are equally tempting and delicious.
Somya Seth is a lot like Aaradhya of Dil Ki Nazar Se Khoobsurat – looks pretty, is rooted but detests ugly hmmm... in this case vegetables.... is paranoid about mushrooms, hates brinjal, karela (bitter gourd) yet is kind to other’s flaws and is fida over her family especially her parents. Where humans are concerned, she believes how a person thinks matters, “A person’s inner beauty will eventually reflect on his/her persona,” she opines taking a sip from fresh lime juice.
Is gizmo savvy, personally owns a white Hyundai I10 automatic car which she fondly calls her ‘Sweeto’, “This is my first car and I have no intention of buying myself a new one. I have gifted hi-end cars to my family members but to me Sweeto is my soul mate. She gives me the independence and freedom. It’s small, safe and I don’t have to worry about going anywhere.” Depending on drivers is a thing she learnt to do away with when a driver replaced all the four new tyres with old ones.
Main course , Somya is very clear about having Makki di roti and Sarson da Saag which the friendly staff serve along with stuffed parathas, dal, Paneer Kalimiri and Chana Masala. ... all authentic Punjabi food. It is yummy Brownie with hot chocolate and ice cream for dessert, which she reveals, “Brownies are our family favorite.”
When a show ends, it is testing time for an actor as she feels, “You are so used to the pampering, attention and busy schedules that suddenly you find yourself twiddling your thumbs. That’s when I have to come out of my reel character to Somya Seth. Just when I am getting around to being myself, comes along another role and there I go again,” she laughs. Right now she is in a Somya phase and enjoying it too.
Industry guys don’t excite her, “most of them are not family material” according to the fiery girl who would rather settle for an arranged match by her family. She loves to party with her family and cousins as she feels she can be herself amongst them.
The ingenious girl’s parting notes on Women’s Day, “The male folks have had their way – they have ill-treated and misbehaved (raped, etc) with women, subjugated, leched at them yet we have risen above every negative force. Give us ten more years and see where men stand. Men are nowhere and nothing without women... we are Shakti!” Kudos to that Somya and more strength to women power!
