One of Indian television's first faces Navneet Nishan, who rose to fame with the show Tara, is making a comeback to t he small screen. She returns with Maverick production's weekly comedy show Gupshup Coffee Shop on SAB TV from 6 th December.
For the first time she'll be playing a grandmom's role. Elaborating on her character she says, "I'm playing the role of a grandmother (Mrs.Parmilla Dhariwal). Sudhir Pandey plays my husband. She's not your typical television granny. She's very naughty and a spendthrift. She always derives means to achieve the ends."
Do you want to create a new identity by playing such elderly roles? "I never tried creating something new. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing a granny or a 16-year-old. As an actor, I simply try and do justice to my character."
After Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka on Star One, she disappeared from the sight. "I got married and left for America. So, I wasn't seen for 2-3 years. However, I got divorced and now I'm back at doing what I do best i.e. act. I am doing the weekly show Gupshup Coffee Shop which is about three daft women trying to run a coffee shop. Despite faulting many a times, they still try raking in certain profits" said Navneet.
On her return Navneet has also bagged three films, Drona, Kalpvriksh and a Pritsh Nandy film. Does this mean she'll devote more time for films?
"I've always believed in doing quality work. The medium has never mattered to me. What I look out in a film or a TV show is professionalism, lots of hard work and being on one's toes," she answers.
While Gupshup will keep Navneet on her toes, we hope the show becomes the talk of the town.
