MUMBAI: Actress Pooja Banerjee has her bags packed and will soon be accompanying her husband, Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal, for the Asian Games. Pooja says that she is very excited about this. ‘He will be going on the 14th of August. This is the first time I’m going to accompany him on his tournament. At the last Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, he was the only Indian swimmer to win a medal. I’m super excited to watch him live and support him,’ she says.
The actress says that she has always been proud of her husband: ‘I feel elated and I can’t express my happiness in words. I feel happy, proud, and overwhelmed that he is so good at his sport and is so dedicated. There is so much to learn from him.’
She adds, ‘He has been the only Indian breaststroke swimmer to get qualified for 3 consecutive Olympics—Beijing, London, and Rio Olympics.’
In fact, it was swimming that played cupid in their relationship as well. ‘Swimming was the common link and we knew each other because of that. We met because of swimming and then finally became a swimmer couple!’ she laughs.
For the uninitiated, Pooja herself is a national level swimmer. ‘I feel so good my husband is fulfilling the dreams that I had and is making our nation proud,’ she says.
Ask her how it feels to be married to a sports person, and she says, ‘Well! It’s different from being with an actor. I have started eating healthy and started taking good care of my body. I have also reduced my working hours as well.’
