Princess 'Chandramukhi' unveiled

Legend has it that some of the most beautiful women, mainly princesses, hailed from India. During the colonial era, a British officer was lost for words, and his senses too, at the sight of an Indian queen. In 2007, there's no monarchy or colonialism, but India still boasts of the most gorgeous women in the world. A new queen on Indian television is set to capture your heart and soul. She is Assam's Piku Sharma, who plays Princess Chandramukhi. The hour long weekly goes on air from Tuesday, October 30th at 10.pm on DD1.

The name Piku just doesn't match up to her divine beauty. Her admirers will prefer to call her Chandramukhi. "If that's the way you like me then you can go ahead and write it as Chandramukhi" says Piku. Piku was born in Guwahati, Assam. She shifted to Mumbai a year and half ago. Though a theatre artist, she began her career by modeling for ads. Sunil Agnihotri, director of ' Chandramukhi' had one look at her snaps and was convinced that she'll fit perfectly into the role. Speaking on her character, Piku says, "I play princess Chandramukhi of Roopnagar. Chandramukhi is sought by one and all. Many brave warriors have left their kingdom in search of Chandramukhi but none have returned alive from Roopnagar" For a rank outsider, going through Tellywood is often the gate to Bollywood. However, the Assamese bombshell has no such aspirations. "Films have never fascinated me much. I was into theatre from an early age. So, I've love doing plays and serials" With such gorgeous looks it does come as a surprise that she chose to begin her television career with a costume drama? The Assamese girl chides, "I'm passionate about acting. I always will do roles that make me feel comfortable. I'm thoroughly enjoying my character in Chandramukhi. Also, I believe in doing limited but quality roles" Though, she's comfortable doing costume dramas, the actress wants to do strong, woman orientated roles in the future. A natural talent that she is, Piku never enrolled herself into any acting or dance school. She's well versed with the traditional Assamese dance form. Often those from humble backgrounds get lost in the glamour world. However, Piku carries a matured head on her shoulders. She says, "I believe in the philosophy 'simple living and high thinking. I don't want to achieve fame at the cost of not living my life" This beauty not only has brains but is good at preaching too. So, let's bow to princess Chandramukhi.
