MUMBAI: Model, actor, and TV host Mini Mathur recently posted a set of photos from her first day on the sets of the game show Tol Mol Ke Bol. The nostalgic tweet has sparked a wave of nostalgia among millennials who recall the early days of Indian satellite television, with a young R Madhavan serving as her co-host.

Mini wrote about how she got the work as a recent MBA graduate working part-time as a model in her post. The images feature a youthful and energetic Mini opposite to a baby-faced Madhavan, who was just beginning his career in the entertainment industry. Mini is dressed in a "lame office salwar kameez and permed hair."
As Mini shared her memories from that life-changing day, she expressed her excitement at being able to work with the “new, cute boy” who would later become one of India’s most popular actors. The images have struck a chord with fans and followers, evoking memories of a bygone era in Indian television.
In her post, Mini recounts the story of her first day on the set of the reality show Tol Mol Ke Bol back in January 1995. Despite being in her “lame office salwar kameez and permed hair,” Mini exuded the confidence of a fresh post-graduate and felt at ease in front of the camera.
“One day, out of the blue.. the now legendary @sanjoykroy called me in to audition for one of india’s first game shows -TOL MOL KE BOL. The first season had made @riturajksingh (RIP) wildly popular and he was moving to films. They needed new hosts and here I was.. in my lame office salwar kameez and permed hair. I didn’t think i would get picked and I had that “fresh post graduate” wala confidence so I wasn’t nervous one bit. But from the moment he called ACTION, I felt at ease. The camera was my friend, it never intimidated me. I could chat WITH it , not talk AT it. I was home (sic),” read her post.
From the moment the director called “action”, Mini felt an instant connection with the camera. Instead of feeling intimidated, she found comfort in treating it as a friend to chat with rather than talking at it. At that moment, she knew she had found her place in the world of television.
In addition to providing a glimpse into Mini's path as a TV host, her emotional walk down memory lane serves as a reminder of the extraordinary skill and potential that both she and R Madhavan possessed even in their early careers. Many millennials who cherished watching the two stars in their early TV days have smiled as result of this sentimental post.
“I used to watch you Mins , you and @actormaddy were too too awesome , witty and absolutely fun to watch ….,” wrote star chef Mariz Goretti.
A fan commented, “Nostalgic those were the days .. simple, beautiful , full of energy and no show off. No pulling others down just to make someone else look better.” “Pure love and this pic of @actormaddy made me remember the Sea Hawks days! Gosh TV was a very big deal back then!,” another one commented.
