MUMBAI : Actress Radhika Vidyasagar, known for her role as Renuka Deshmukh in Rahul Kumar Tewary's Udne Ki Aasha, shares her thoughts on the relationship between television and its audiences. She refers to viewers as Maai Baap audience, a Marathi term meaning guardians, as their opinions play a crucial role in the success of any show.
"Any audience is intelligent," Radhika explains. "In Marathi, we call them Maai Baap audience because their preferences and opinions shape everything. Whether it’s TV, film, or digital content, the audience decides what works. We can't underestimate their sharpness." Radhika points out that television audiences are particularly good at connecting with characters.
"They notice everything, from the look of a character to how actors deliver their dialogues and even their breath control while performing. These small details matter to them." Having been in the industry for over 25 years, Radhika has seen television evolve.
"The industry has grown in terms of acting styles, makeup, and production values. It's great to be part of this change, and I'm happy to connect with such a thoughtful audience." In her current role as Renuka, a character with both comic and negative traits, Radhika finds it to be a learning experience. "Every character teaches you something. Renuka has shown me what not to do in life and reminds me to stay grounded." Radhika’s view reflects the ongoing importance of television, with the audience continuing to guide its direction.
