MUMBAI: Television heartthrob Randeep Rai, who has captivated viewers for over a decade with his charm and versatility, is back in the limelight with his powerful portrayal of Aryan in the top-rated series Anupamaa. Known for his nuanced performances and ever-growing popularity, Randeep continues to evolve as an actor, now venturing into complex, grey-shaded roles.
Rising to stardom as the lovable Sameer in the much-celebrated Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, Randeep won hearts across the nation with his natural screen presence and magical chemistry with co-star Ashi Singh. The duo became one of Indian television’s most iconic pairings, leaving an indelible mark on audiences.

Post the show’s tremendous success, Randeep seamlessly transitioned into mature and diverse roles in shows like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2 and Balika Vadhu 2, proving his mettle as a versatile performer.
Now, with his entry into Anupamaa, Randeep has taken on a darker, more layered character – Aryan – whose bitterness stems from deep-rooted abandonment issues.
In an exclusive chat with TellyChakkar, the actor shared his thoughts on this new phase in his career and his fascination with grey characters.
“My character Aryan is driven by resentment,” Randeep revealed. “He cannot stand to see his mother happy because she abandoned him at birth. That emotional wound defines him, and he’ll go to any length to make her suffer. It’s a challenging role, and I feel ready for it.”
Having completed a decade in the industry, Randeep believes it’s time to expand his horizons.
“I want to push myself beyond the roles I’ve played before. For the next four to five years, I plan to experiment with different shades and characters. I’d also love to try my hand at a mythological show,” he shared.
The actor expressed his admiration for Hindi movie star Shahid Kapoor, drawing inspiration from the actor’s transition into grey roles.
“Grey characters have such emotional depth and complexity. Just look at Shahid Kapoor, his performance in Kaminey was phenomenal. He reinvented himself. To truly grow, you must be able to portray both the good and the flawed,” Randeep added.
With his current role in Anupamaa already striking a chord with audiences, Randeep Rai proves once again that he’s not just here to play it safe, he's here to make a lasting impact. And if his recent performances are any indication, the actor’s journey into uncharted territory is only just beginning.
