Rotary Club's 'women self defense' campaign is a great success
It’s a great success, yes it is! Earlier we mentioned about Tellychakkar.com extending its supporting to The Lead Clubs Rotary Club Of Bombay Chembur West and Rotary Club Of Mumbai Ghatkopar - District 3140 in conducting Self Defense Workshops across Mumbai and Thane from 28 July to 6 August (2014) on personal safety designed to equip women to protect themselves. The campaign was a roaring success with almost 990 girls participating in the initiative. Talking about it, Charanjit Kaur ,Teacher at Karnataka High School mentions, “The hands on session was very helpful. The girls are now trained physically and mentally to face any untoward situation. A very good session.” Adds Kiran Yadav Teacher at Karnataka High School, “There is no fear to travel at night anymore ... a training session every girl should undergo.” This project was undertaken keeping in perspective the current scenario where crime against women has become rampant. Rotary District 3140 in association with Action Breaks Silence conducted five workshops in Mumbai. Action Breaks Silence, founded by UK- based Debi Stevens, is a not for profit company working to help underprivileged girls and women. These workshops were led by a highly trained team of men and women from UK, assisted by self- defense instructors from various parts of India. It was a world class training programme.” Celebs who lent their support to the noble cause were Prerna Wanvari (Bandini, Parichay, Adaalat), Tanisha Mukherjee (Bigg Boss).
