Her laughter's infectious even over the phone! She's 61 years old; she will play a dadi who's 75, but the lady's not complaining! Tabassum, who's worked with six generation of directors will be part of Rajashree productions' latest daily, Pyar Ke do Naam, Ek Radha, Ek Shyam.
"Oh! I am enjoying shooting for the show. Although, I'm 61, I play a 75 year old dadi and I look really old. But she is cute, she reminds me of my own mother-in-law! She is so sweet and so kind," says the actor, who would perhaps be always remembered on Indian television for her chirpy presence in Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. Few people know that Phool... was the first Indian chat show on air. It had a successful run of 21 years (1972-1993), something that today's chat shows can only dream of accomplishing.
"I have a 50 year long association with the Rajashree's. I have played in Tarachand Barjatya's ( grandfather of producer, Kavita Barjatya) lap as a kid, and now I am playing a dadi in Kavita's show, " says Tabassum breaking into peels of laughter.
Pyar...is a story about reincarnation and although the lady is reluctant to say much,we gather that the storyline of the show appealed to her more than anything else!
"I usually don't watch any shows on television. I watch Discovery and the news channels. But once my show goes on air, I'll watch it...even if I weren't in the show, I would still watch it because of its story! It's unique, very fresh!" says Tabassum.
Is she open to more work on television, we ask -- " I am at that age in my life, where I neither work for fame nor for money! By the grace of God I have enough! I work just for the pleasure of it all! I want to entertain and in the process get entertained...I am proud to have worked with so many generations of actors and directors," points out Tabassum.
"I feel no tiredness. I believe that the day I'm tired, people will get tired of seeing me! They should look forward to seeing me!" signs off the lady, whose sense of humour is still intact, even after all these years!
