Reality shows are all about controversy, bitching and high dose of drama!
Well, the latest show to become the prey of bitching and gossip is Box Cricket League. The first of its kind sports reality show is all set to launch on Sony Entertainment Television this weekend (14 December).
Now Tellychakkar.com has got an exclusive piece of information that is doing the rounds in the players’ circle at the moment.
First let us abreast you with some facts.
Marinating Films’ brainchild BCL was played earlier this year with six teams at a studio where the entire execution was purely out of fun and the love for cricket. Getting ambitious with the project the makers decided to approach channels and get the league televised. Soon Sony Six commissioned the project and it was all set to launch in October.
And then voila!!! Entered devi of TV- Ekta Kapoor in the picture.
She almost hijacked the project making the simple format show into a mega masaledar reality show. BCL now has become more of a ‘locker room’ drama series than about the game of cricket. Thanks to its IPL mix with Bigg Boss funda, the show will now air on Sony Entertainment Television.
Now these developments have led to major disappointment for the players in a lot many ways.
Shared a player in terms of anonymity, “Firstly we were signed at a small fee of (Rs 50k each) to play the matches and most of us wanted to be in BCL for the love of cricket. Then we got to know Ekta has taken over the venture and the entire format will be changed. Now it’s more of the saas bahu sagas than about the game. To top it off, we are being forced to attend events and parties in order to promote the teams and BCL over all. It is a harrowing experience with no remuneration at all.”
So kam paise mein zyada kaam is what the players are complaining of. But no one is ready to come out in open and speak about it as crossing Ekta is something no actor would dare to do in the television business.
The same actor further shared: “Isn’t it unfair that we have been paid so less when signed for a show and then they expect us to cancel our shoots and go for events without any benefits?”
Armed with this information we buzzed Nivedita Basu owner of Kolkata Baabu Moshayes. We called her as we learnt that her camp is the most unhappy lot. “We are not forcing any actor to play or promote, they are all doing it on their own will. Talking about the contract issue, it doesn’t matter who comes over board and who is airing it, it was clear from the start that they would be participating in the promotion even if the show was to go online through Youtube. I don’t know from where this ‘complaining’ is coming from.”
Talking about Ekta’s participation, the creative director of Balaji Telefilms said, “I think some actors are just trying to gain Ekta’s attention. They should actually be happy that Ekta is putting so much money to make the show a hit. They were signed for BCL and they should have no business on who is pumping the money. This is an original concept and we are trying our level best to see that it becomes a success, not bothering about monetary benefits.”
We also texted Ekta for a comment but she did not reply till the time of filing the article.
Well, whatever may be the case, at the end of the day; we suppose it’s only money that talks!
