MUMBAI: A lot of the show's success depends upon the actors and storyline. The responsibility of finding suitable actors for the show is given to the Casting Directors. It will be incorrect to say that the job of casting director is very challenging. This profession requires them to be available 24*7. 

Shadman Khan, the casting director behind many famous television shows namely Half Marriage, Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum, Yeh Hai Chahatein, Laal Ishq and many more, has come a long way. Amid pandemic, Shadman is casting for projects and making sure to keep the ball rolling. However, this pandemic has changed the entire working cycle. Though, he is making the most out of this tough time.

In a conversation with us, Shadman spoke in brief how a role of a Casting director has become challenging. He shared, “Even in lockdown, I have been casting for ad films. The actors are now required to shoot their own auditions and send it to us. Somewhere the process has been streamlined but we have not been able to approach many actors as some are still out of town while some are facing issues to shoot at home. These days we coordinate with actors on a conference call. As per shooting requirement, first we do recce of the actor's house and accordingly decide at which part of the house the shoot will take place. However, it is creating a lot of trouble as the actor wouldn’t know the angle properly and once there is a mistake the entire scene has to be reshot.”

“Talking about the future for some time now actors will have to continue to shoot their audition at home and send it to us. We hear that even look tests will mostly take place at actors’ houses for the time being. Right now things are quite messy. Let’s wait and watch how things shape up in coming time.”
