On 8th February 1989, a fateful accident took place as a massive fire outbreak engulfed the Premier Studios of Mysore, where the drama was being shot. Unavailability of firefighting equipment and ignorance of fire safety standards were the major reasons behind this mishap. Loose wiring and absence of ventilators further led to the spreading of the fire. Instead of fire-proofing material, the walls had gunny bags and the temperature rose to around 120°C (248°F) because of huge lights being used for the shooting. All these factors contributed to the massive fire.
The casualty rate (in terms of death toll) was as high as 62. Actor Sanjay Khan himself suffered major burns, such that he was hospitalised for 13 months straight and had to undergo 72 surgeries. An ex-gratia amount of Rs.5000 was paid to the victims.

It was very windy and we couldn’t predict its speed. Once I started gliding, I gained greater than the required momentum and slid through much faster than I was supposed to. I almost banged straight into a brick of wall but somehow fortunately due to my quick reflexes managed to avoid the collision with the help of my feet.
