MUMBAI: In a delightful walk down memory lane, acclaimed television presenter and actor Mini Mathur recently took to social media to share a series of nostalgic snapshots from her earliest days in the television industry.

The post, brimming with fond recollections, takes fans back to the vibrant 90s era of Indian satellite television a time when the small screen was just beginning to capture the imagination of the nation.

The photos, taken on the sets of the beloved game show Tol Mol Ke Bol, feature a young Mini alongside her then co-host, an equally fresh-faced R Madhavan. Long before they became household names, the duo charmed audiences with their natural flair and easy camaraderie.

Recounting the serendipitous beginning of her career, Mathur revealed she had been dabbling in part-time modelling when an unexpected phone call changed the course of her life. She landed the role of host on the popular pricing game show a gig that would become her gateway into the entertainment world.

With characteristic wit, Mini described her audition look as “a rather uninspiring office salwar kameez teamed with my wildly permed hair.” Despite the modest attire, she recalled feeling inexplicably at ease the moment she faced the camera. “The connection was instant,” she shared, reflecting on how naturally she settled into her role on screen.

One of the show’s quirkiest and most memorable segments involved contestants guessing the cost of Mini’s saree a playful twist, especially considering the outfits were often sponsored and accessorised with her mother’s jewellery. “Makeup wasn’t a daily necessity back then,” she quipped, “I had young, happy skin that did most of the work.”

Mini also fondly introduced her co-host in the post “A new, rather adorable lad from Jamshedpur” none other than R Madhavan. At the time, Madhavan was just beginning to explore a career in acting, and the show marked one of his earliest stints in front of the camera. Together, they travelled across the country, anchoring a show that quickly became a hit with audiences who were hooked on the concept of guessing the prices of everyday items.

Fast forward to the present, both Mini Mathur and R Madhavan have carved out remarkable careers in the Indian entertainment industry, earning admiration for their versatility and dedication. Their shared beginnings on Tol Mol Ke Bol serve as a reminder of how far they’ve come — and just how charmingly it all began.
