MUMBAI: Tushar Dalvi who essays the role of Sai Baba in Sony Television’s much acclaimed show Mere Sai has proven his mettle as an outstanding actor time and again.
The current track in the show revolves around the plight of a poverty stricken family who turn to Sai Baba for guidance when they are captured in shackles of bonded labour.
Being an actor who understands that preparation is as much of an actor’s job as the performance itself, Tushar has immersed himself in books based on bonded labour. He wants to learn better about this lesser known social evil, so that he can bring a sense of ‘reality’ to the track. Interestingly, Tushar has, also, done a Marathi film ‘Survanta’ in which he played a poor farmer who’s exploited by a zamindaar. So, even though, he already had a fair idea of the misery of a farmer caught in the vicious debt cycle, Tushar felt he further needed to dive into the core of the issue to grasp the matter better.
Sharing how he prepared for this track, Tushar said, “When I heard the script, I was moved. My heart went out to all the farmers who have to go through this turmoil of bonded labour. So, I knew I had to extensive research before we start shooting for the track. However, once I got down to reading about it, I was eager to learn more and more, especially how prevalent it is even today. I fail to understand how we as a society are not aware about this? Why aren’t there more conversations surrounding it?! My only hope is that through this track, we’re able to convey a strong and a meaningful message that touches a chord in the hearts of our viewers.”
Over the years, Tushar has been embodying Sai’s character traits and nuances with utmost perfection, producing one of the most memorable and admirable performances in the history of Indian television.
