Vaquar Shaikh enjoying his stint as a 'standup' comedian!

Vaquar Shaikh

Life can sometimes bring really interesting twists. Actor Vaquar Shaikh, who is known to play serious roles on TV, has now found a new calling... in comedy!

The actor, who impressed us with his layered character of Rashid Ahmed Khan in Qubool Hai, has been missing from TV for long. The reason being his active participation as a standup comedian on ‘Scam, Bam, Thank you Ma’m’. The show is a rib- tickling take on India's dysfunctions!

Shares the actor, “I have been doing theatre for quite long and one of my friends offered me a chance to be a part of his show. It’s been almost a year and we are doing wonderfully well with the show. I have performed more than 45 shows across India and have received quite a positive response from audiences.”

Vaquar also mentioned that people never considered him for comic roles because of their pre-conceived notion. “The sad part about TV is that people typecast you and mould you in similar roles. Having done some serious kind of roles, nobody ever offered me anything light. Since I am enjoying myself in this new found glory, I haven’t taken up anything for a while.”

Talking about his experience as a solo stage artist, the actor said, “It is a very different feeling and completely enthralling. I think it’s an addiction now. The high you get seeing your audience react live cannot be measured.”

Vaquar continued, “I am so thankful that I got this opportunity. Also, it has helped me challenge myself as an actor. I remember being asked to work on a Sindhi script, just a day before the act. Having no knowledge about the dialect, I worked really hard and today it is one of the most popular acts of the show.”

Well done, Vaquar! Here's wishing you great luck!
