Looks like Zee is slowly finding its way to the top. This week’s TAM data shows the channel upstaging Colors to grab the No. 2 position on the Hindi GECs charts. According to TAM data in Week 9, the channel’s weekday and weekend primetime programs have strengthened its position vis a vis the competition, and contributed to its improved block lead in the first two months of the year. Week 9 of TAM 2011 shows that Zee TV has gained 23 GRPs to reach at 233 GRPs from last week’s 210.
What’s more, Zee is also closing in on the heels of Channel No. 1 Star Plus with 154 GRPs compared to the latter’s 156 GRPs. Zee also holds to the No. 2 position in weekday prime time (6 pm to 11.30 pm) with 132 GRPS not far behind Star Plus which is at 148 GRPs.
Meanwhile, Pavitra Rishta continues to be the No. 1 show in Hindi GEC with an average TVR of 5.5 in week 9.
And while Colors relies heavily on Bollywood for its weekend programming, playing films like Dabang time and again, Zee claims to have cracked the formula with “innovative content strategies”.
Interestingly, family comedy channel Sab has for the first time toppled Sony to come into the top-four league.
Sab has added 19 GRPs in its tally to close the week with 153 GRPs, ahead of Sony’s tally of 136 GRPs.
Well, pardon the jargon, but what we can gather is Zee is fast catching up.
