MUMBAI: Aahana Kumra is one of the most talented actresses we have in the industry. She has left a mark with her performances in many movies and web series. Last year, she was seen in movies and web series like India Lockdown, Salaam Venky, Call My Agent: Bollywood, and Avrodh Season 2.
TellyChakkar recently did a round table and Aahana was one of the guests on it, and we spoke to her about the character that she thought was difficult to justify.
Aahana stated, “I think for me the most difficult character was Priyanka Gandhi in The Accidental Prime Minister. I will tell you the funniest incident of my career. I got a call for the audition, and they asked me if I have read the book, and I was like ‘which book?’. I told them I don’t know about the book. So, then they told me that they want me to do this part (Priyanka Gandhi). As an actor, what you instinctively do is go on YouTube and watch videos. I went on YT, and there was not much material about her, and at that time there wasn’t so much craze of social media, Instagram, and other things.”
“There was this one sit-down interview that she had done, I watched that interview, and co-incidentally when I went for the audition, they did the same interview at the audition. So, they made me wear the wig and saree, and when I saw myself in the mirror, I was like ‘Oh my god, I look like her’. I gave the audition and I got the part,” she added.
Aahana further revealed how the shooting wasn’t so smooth for her.
The actress said, “I remember it was my first shot, there’s Hansal Mehta, Vijay Gutte, and Akshaye Khanna sitting on the monitor. We were shooting in Delhi, and behind me, there was a crowd of people, and the scene is that I am leaving a place after the announcement is done that Manmohan Singh ji will be the Prime Minister. We did 12 takes for that scene and they kept on telling me one more. For the first time in my career, the 12th take is going on and one of the extras comes and asks me, ‘aap kuch galat kar rahi hai’, and I was like ‘Oh my god, I am doing something wrong’. But, the 12th take became okay.”
“After I went back to my room that day, for the first time I was feeling that I had done something wrong and my director did not like it. Then I got a message from my director asking if I got a video, the real video of the scene, and I asked ‘what video?’. So, he said that there was an actual video of Priyanka Gandhi which the AD was supposed to share with me before we started shooting. I said I haven’t got any video, and he screamed at his AD. He then told me to reshoot the scene in my room, and I had done an audition after I had been cast in the film. I have re-auditioned for the film because they made me do that scene entirely again and then he was like we will shoot this tomorrow morning. They reshot the entire scene and in one take, we got the scene right. All they had to do was share the right reference for me as an actor. But, these things happen and they make you question yourself,” she added.
Now, that’s surely a scary experience for an actor to re-audition for a film after being cast in it.
