MUMBAI: Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani were super excited for their upcoming movie Laxmmi Bomb which was slated to release on 22 May 2020 but due to the unfortunate outbreak of COVID-19 no theatres were allowed to show any films as declared by the government to curb the spread of this novel virus. Akshay and Kiara had completed their shoot for the movie Laxmmi Bomb pre-lockdown and were eagerly waiting for theatrical release.

But Coronavirus seems to have got a good hold and is creating ruckus for one and all. Laxmmi Bomb was all set to clash with Bhaijaan’s movie Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai on Eid 2020. However, this did not happen. But it seems like the makers have finally decided to release their movie on an OTT platform (Disney+Hotstar) but guess what date? According to the latest report in Filmfare, Laxmmi Bomb will release on OTT on Independence day i.e., August 15, 2020. Well, we can all say Akshay Kumar has a special connection with this date (15th August) as his previous movies like Gold, Mission Mangal, and Rustom released on the same date which proved to be blockbusters.
Recently, Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann starrer Gulabo Sitabo released on Amazon Prime, and Janhvi Kapoor's Gunja Saxena: The Kargil Girl will also be released on an OTT platform, Netflix. Not only this, but movies like Dil Bechara, Big Bull, and Lootcase are headed for an OTT release.
As per reports, “Laxmmi Bomb has been sold for a staggering Rs 125 crore. But while the number is huge considering digital rates, what one must not forget is that it had the potential of earning over 200 crores at the box office, despite a clash with Salman Khan’s Radhe. So the total revenue that the team will make out of it, is much less.”
