MUMBAI: When the world is facing off against coronavirus, many countries are fighting against growing domestic violence.
A video on the issue was uploaded by Anushka Sharma and features Madhuri Dixit Nene, Farhan Akhtar, Virat Kohli, Dia Mirza, Vidya Balan, Karan Johar, and few other famous personalities.
Have a look.
The post urged all the victims, witnesses, and survivors of domestic violence to report to the authorities.
'During the lockdown, there has been a sharp increase in the number of domestic violence cases,' celebrities proclaimed in the video.
For a victim to report such physically and mentally stressing acts, they need immense support. To ensure this, the celebrities are seen repeating, 'break your silence'.
The message is an initiative by Akshara centre, a women’s NGO in Mumbai in collaboration with a Special cell for women and children with the support of Maharashtra police and governance.
The video spread a hashtag of its own #LockdownonDomesticViolence.
On April 14, Indian Prime minister, Mr. Narendra Modi extended the lockdown for three more weeks, for the majority of the country it is the fight against the virus but for many ill-treated women of the country, it is a prison sentence that continues.
