MUMBAI: Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh is indeed one of the loved names we have today. Recently we have seen a mind blowing performance of the actress in the movie Sam Bahadur that had Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The movie now is winning hearts all over as it is streaming on OTT platform Zee5.

Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh exclusively shared her experience playing Indira Gandhi in the movie Sam Bahadur and also on the history of India as a country.

The film explores the relationship between political leaders and military figures. Can you share your perspective on how Indira Gandhi's character contributes to this dynamic?

Fatima Sana Shaikh shared, “She was our Prime Minister! Of course, any leader has a huge impact on society at that time when they are in power. They really shape the country according to their ethics and politics. "

Can you share any interesting anecdotes or movements that you remember from the set?

Fatima Sana Shaikh shared, “As Fatima, I am very clumsy and all over the place. Sometimes, Meghna had to tell me, ""Fatima, stop moving so much. Makeup will get ruined; prosthetics will get ruined."" Because I laugh a lot, and I'm always falling and tripping. And I think Meghna had a hard time getting hold of me sometimes. "

Given the historical context, how important do you think it is for audiences to engage with stories like this and reflect on India's history?

The actress adds, “India's history is very rich. We have gone through a lot as a country, we have seen a lot. Unfortunately, we do not know a lot about our country. Even I didn't. I recently read a book in Anarchy. I came to know about the East India Company and what they did. So, that's when I started realizing and gaining personal interest. Once you start learning about something and you start learning about our country, there is a different level of empathy that grows within you. You also start understanding people, where every culture comes from, what their history has been, what problems they have gone through. It’s very interesting. But it grows within you, and when there are people like Meghna, Ronnie, and so many others who are making films on certain parts of history; it's nice because then at least the new generation will come to know what has happened in the past. So, it's nice to have people writing and making films about our past”
