TellyChakkar got in touch with the producer and asked her why she decided to produce “Birth” and what are the challenges she faces as a producer.
What drove you to produce the project?
Winning the film is very close to my heart, I actually conceptualised it. I really like we don’t see women who are pregnant or the changes they are going through during the journey of pregnancy. It’s such an important part of our lives and no one looks at the pressure you feel, what society tells you the guilt you go through, or the questions you go through while keeping your identity, especially when you become a mother. So I just wanted to explore this important time, but in a very unique way as we are in the business of entertainment. So we chose to make a satire on the pressure society puts on women to become the perfect mother.
What are the challenges you face as a producer?
I feel like very few people are there who understand what a producer does. Let me be clear, a producer is not someone who writes cheques. A producer is someone who looks for concepts, looks after scripting and development, and is very hands-on in the creative part. From scripting, casting, and bringing on director on board, to overseeing budgeting and looking at the market of the film, it’s a highly creative job.
Why I love being a producer because it is a mix of a creative and business role, and it’s always difficult to balance both.
Short movies are always critically acclaimed and also receive a lot of love from the audience. Are you nervous about your upcoming project?
I feel the audience wants something different and we are not going to know what they want until you experiment, we have created a very unique movie which we are very proud of and the star cast has done an amazing job and you can’t predict what can happen but I am very proud of the movie.
Natasha’s upcoming projects include Uunchai, a film written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya and produced by Rajshri Productions, in association with Boundless Media and Mahaveer Jain Films. The film stars an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, and Danny Denzongpa with Neena Gupta and Sarika in prominent roles. It is scheduled for theatrical release on 11 November 2022.
