MUMBAI: Hindi cinema's famous filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for creating masterpiece films like 'Devdas' 'Bajirao Mastani', 'Padmaavat' to name a few. He is a magician who knows how to make the film larger than life. His next offering is his debut web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ which airs on Netflix from 1st May, 2024. Bhansali who has completed 25 years in the film industry will be showing the life of courtesans from the eyes of Heeramandi, an Urdu word for diamond bazaar and an area in Lahore.
Well, did you know that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was being considered for Heeramandi? It is well known that Bhansali shares a great bond with Ash. She has been his leading lady as Nandini in ' Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', Paro in 'Devdas' and Sophia in 'Guzaarish'. Ash in 'Heeramandi' would have floored the audience as the beauty knows how to speak with her eyes, a million words. Bhansali also revealed in a statement that 'Heeramandi' is one of the major milestones in his sojourn as a filmmaker.

Sanjay and Aishwarya had first met during the screening of Raja Hindustani. As destiny had it decided, SLB was looking for his Nandini and from that time Bhansali found his muse in Aishwarya. The actress in SLB's films has evoked emotions related to love, suffering and freedom. If she had been in 'Heeramandi', the series would look like poetry in motion. The stellar cast of ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, Vaishnavi Ganatra, Jason Shah and others.
