MUMBAI : Manoj Bajpayee has time and again proven that he is a gem of Indian Cinema. His upcoming movie Despatch has been in the buzz for a while now. The movie will be a Zee5 original and was also screened in MAMI film festival where it got huge appreciation from viewers.

In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar, Manoj Bajpayee and Kanu Behl talked about their upcoming project Despatch, how it was taxing at points and the intimate scenes in it.

Manoj Bajpayee said, “It can get threatening if you are not surrendering yourself. Mere liye focus mera dusra hota hai, uss maamle mein main bada selfish hu. Main apni possibility ko dekhna chaah raha hu ki koi director mujhe kahaan leke jana chaah raha hai. I am very much interested in growing as an actor and yeh logo ko shayad sirf kahin hui baat lage but actually mein mujhe mazaa aata hai acting karne mein. Mujhe agar shayad kisi aur tareeke ki film mein kaam karna hota toh uske opportunities bohot the mere career mein aur dusri jagah jaake kar sakta tha main usko continue kar sakta tha main lekin main uss raah pe gaya nahi aur main iss tarah ki filmein isliye choose karta raha kyuki main interested hu apne growth mein, apne actor’s ke growth mein. I want to see how far I can go as an actor so focus who rehta hai. I have not been chasing stardom ever, jo bhi thoda bahut attention milta raha hai main usme khush hu, thoda sa zyada milta hai toh uncomfortable ho jata hu. If I can afford to be a fly on the wall I am far more happier, believe me but at the same time, I am happy that I’m getting choices. So iss mein koi bhi mujhe nahi lagta ke contradiction iss mein. Iss mein koi contradiction nahi hai. Not that I am focused to have limelight on me. Believe me, I am very happy when I’m spoiled for choices. God has given me that position but at the same time, I’m using it for my actor to grow. More than surprising Kanu Behl, I want to surprise myself…That gives me a childlike happiness.”

When talking about the intimate scenes in the film, we asked Kanu Behl the challenges as an intimacy director to which he replied by saying, “Yeh sir intimacy director kuch hota hi nahi hai. Director ka hi toh kaam hota hai. So yeh intimacy kya hoti hai, kya sirf sexual scenes mein intimacy hoti hai? Agar do pyaar mein hai aur ek cafe mein baith ke ek coca-cola ki bottle se pi rahe hai, usme bhi toh intimacy hai. Har scene ek intimate scene hota hai. Every scene in the film is an exchange of emotions between people and they are intimate emotions, private emotions so every scene is that. So director ka hi toh kaam hota hai yeh karna. Personally, I don’t understand sort of need for a separate intimacy director. However, even as I say that, there can be specific situations, specialized situations where help of that nature might be required but I think first and foremost it is the director’s job to be able to talk to the actors about what are these so called ‘intimate scenes’, what are they really about and kya ho raha hai kyuki sex ke liye who shoot nahi kiya jaa raha hai. Titilation shoot nahi kiya ja raha hai.”

When asked to Manoj Bajpayee about his thoughts while going through the script with intimate scenes in it, he said, “yeh nahi laga...Kanu Behl kisi bhi actor ek journey pe leke ja sakta hai jo taxing hoga, thaka hua hoga but in the end aap ko mazaa bhi aayega apna who roop dekh ke.”

This was our conversation with Manoj Bajpayee before the release of Despatch which will be available to stream on Zee5 from 13th December.
