MUMBAI : We have seen many period films that are made on a huge scale and budget, but when it comes to web series, we haven’t seen period web series that are mounted on a large scale. Well, The Empire was a grand web series set in the Mughal era, and now, one more web series revolving around Mughals have started streaming on Zee5. We are talking about Taj: Divided By Blood.
Taj: Divided By Blood revolves around Akbar (Naseeruddin Shah) who has to decide who will be the king. He has three sons, Salim (Aashim Gulati), Murad (Taha Shah Badussha), and Daniyal (Shubham Kumar Mehra). Akbar wants to test his sons and decide who will be the next king. But, will his plan work or will it take a bad turn, forming the rest of the story...

When anything related to history is made there’s always a debate about how much is fictional and how much is reality. So, if we keep the facts element away and just look at the series as something one would watch for entertainment, let us tell you that Taj is mounted on a huge scale. It’s a grand series, and visually it is fantastic. From sets to VFX to costumes, everything is just perfect.
One of the best elements about Taj: Divided By Blood is the performances of the actors. Aashim Gulati, Taha Shah Badussha, and Shubham Kumar Mehra; these three actors have nailed it. They are just perfect in their roles. Naseeruddin Shah is a veteran actor and he has done a good job when it comes to emoting through his face, but the body language and the stature of a Mughal king is missing here.
Aditi Rao Hydari looks stunning in each and every frame, and she has performed well. But, her act will remind you of her character from Padmaavat. Sandhya Mridul as Jodha Bai leaves a very strong mark. Supporting actors like Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab, Anushkaa Luhar, Subodh Bhave, and others have done a wonderful job.
But, what goes wrong with Taj: Divided by Blood is that it’s too long. There are a few episodes with 40+ minutes and when you have such long episodes, your content needs to be engaging. However, here the web series is good in bits and parts when it comes to writing and direction. But, it is the performances that save it.

Overall, if you love watching grand period web series with good visuals and great performances, you can surely watch Taj: Divided by Blood once. But, don’t expect some great content.
