The Best Valentine Couples of Bollywood

The Best Valentine Couples of Bollywood
As lovers all across the globe celebrate Valentine’s Day today, we take a look at the real life couples of Bollywood whose love story and marriage has stood the test of time. Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan SRK’s love story is stuff that Bollywood legends are normally made of. When a Muslim boy fell in love with the daughter of a Hindu army man in the by lanes of Delhi, a mini volcano erupted in the Capital. It was not exactly a bed of roses for SRK as Gauri’s family was vehemently opposed to this inter-religious alliance. But trust SRK to charm you when the chips are down. The man who taught India how to love and serenade, himself scripted a Bollywood like love tale when he finally wooed Gauri’s family and married her with everyone’s consent and blessings. Considered to be one of the most powerful couples of Bollywood, SRK’s squeaky clean family man image was tarnished when reports about his alleged closeness to Priyanka Chopra emerged. But those rumours died a natural death soon enough and today, peace and calm prevails at their heavenly abode - Mannat. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan Being married to a phenomenon called Amitabh Bachchan for decades is not a joke. Especially when the unsparing society is always pleased to gossip about your husband’s rumoured paramour. Amitabh and Jaya have lived on as husband and wife despite clouds of Rekha’s alleged affair with Amitabh meandering over their marriage, especially in the early 80s. As time passed, Amitabh too reportedly left Rekha particularly after he suffered from a near fatal accident and settled down into the cozy arms of his wife, Jaya. Today, though both have aged gracefully, they still make a striking pair at the high-profile social dos or celebrity weddings they attend at VVIPs. Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan Script writer Salim Khan’s family is perhaps the most liberal one in the entire Bollywood. When Malaika Arora fell in love with Arbaaz Khan whom she had met during an ad shoot, her mother, a devout catholic insisted on having a church wedding. And the Khans were only happy to oblige. Malaika best known for her item numbers today balances the role of playing a wife, mother and actress to perfection. Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna Akshay was quite the Casanova before Twinkle happened in his life. Love blossomed between these two while shooting on sets. Akshay who was nursing a broken heart after his failed relationships with Shilpa Shetty and Raveena Tandon found the perfect partner he was looking out for in Twinkle and finally decided to take the plunge. And the rest, as they say, is history. While Twinkle retired from her professional life, Akshay’s career zoomed ahead, post marriage. From being considered as a non-bankable star to becoming an A-lister in the industry today, Akshay has today attained all that he had dreamt about. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Easily one of the most high profile couple of Bollywood, Abhishek and Aishwarya’s sudden love story took many by surprise. While Junior Bachchan was engaged to Karisma Kapoor, Aishwarya was going steady with Vivek Oberoi (though she never publicly acknowledged him). For reasons unknown Abhishek broke up with Karisma and Aishwarya with Vivek. Soon enough, Guru happened and both nose dived into Valentine’s whirlpool. A fairly tale wedding unfolded in 2007 and four years later, the world’s most beautiful woman gave birth to a baby girl called Aradhaya. Ajay Devgn and Kajol When Ajay started dating Kajol, they were labeled by the media as an unlikely pair due to their so-called ‘contrasting personalities.’ Ajay even issued a clarification to the media then saying, "We never resorted to the usual 'I Love you' routine. A proposal never happened. We grew with each other. Marriage was never discussed, but it was always imminent". Finally Kajol married Ajay while she was at the peak of her career. Expectedly as it happens with every Bollywood couple, the wife took a voluntary retirement from films and acting. Their marriage has been fairly a squeaky clean one save for the one small allegation that a filmy rag made about Ajay seeing Kangana Ranaut. Nothing came out of it and Ajay – Kajol continue to live happily ever after with their two kids, Nyasa and Yug. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor This is one golden couple of Bollywood who have been able to save their marriage despite the multiple trial and tribulations they went through. Rishi Kapoor was the nation’s blue-eyed boy after Bobby while Neetu was one of the youngest and most promising actresses in Bollywood in the late seventies. Destiny made both these stars meet and fall in love. Neetu left her acting career and married Rishi at the very young age of 21. Though it was not hunky dory post marriage. The couple used to have spats that affected their kids especially Ranbir who was quite young at that time. Much water has flown under the bridge since then and thankfully Rishi and Neetu now seems to have sorted their bickering ways and settled down in to a blissful happy marriage. Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia They both burnt the ramp in their heydays as models. And when they got married after dating briefly, it was like a match made in heaven. The heavenly abode however, was rocked recently when reports of Arjun allegedly dating Sussane Roshan emerged. An angry Arjun staunchly denied the rumours and found support in his wife Mehr who too rubbished the senseless gossip mongering. Arshad Warsi and Maria Goretti Not many know that Maria met Arshad for the first time in 1991 when Arshad came to her college to judge a dance competition she was participating in. Sparks flew and Maria knew she had found her man. The couple went through some tough times when Arshad found himself out of work. Maria took on the onus of becoming the family’s bread winner till Munnabhai happened in Arshad’s life. The awesome twosomes have managed to have a non-controversial and happy married life and are proud parents to a son and daughter. Imran Khan and Avantika Malik Chocolate boy Imran Khan never shied away from hiding his relationship with Avantika Malik. Imran was 19 when he fell in love and he credits Avantika for his own personal growth. The couple got hitched at a private ceremony in 2010 and are now gearing up to welcome their first child home with Avantika due to deliver in June, this year. Sweet, we say.
