MUMBAI: Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia aka Badshah is an Indian rapper, singer songwriter and producer. Badshah has come a long way from where he started and he now has a crazy fan following but as they say, never peak behind the curtains. Sometimes, despite the kind of image that the artist has, we get to see a different picture.

Something similar happened with us when we were supposed to take Badshah’s interview. Here’s what happened:

At the launch of Sheth Realty, we were promised by the PR team for a one-o-one interaction with Badshah. One-on-one means exclusive but there was twist.

This is how it was supposed to go - we would ask a couple questions to Badshah related to the event which would be published on Youtube and print. Additionally we would ask him a few more questions related to him, his upcoming projects and what not.

Instead, this is how it went - Even after the interaction was promised, we had to face disappointment as we did not get what we were promised. On reaching the venue, which constituted more than hour’s travel through dense traffic, sacrificing other precious work as journalist, we witnessed a lot of cameras from other publications facing the spot where Badshah would be interacting with everyone, which is usual. However, this was also the sight of a rude awakening when we came to know that Badshah and his team were going back on their words without any remorse.

Out of the blue we were callously told, that the interview wouldn’t happen as Badshah suddenly felt that he did not want to honour agreement. Vague reason about time, about space were offered to us without any further explanations. Multiple please to honour our agreement fell on their deaf ears till their team finally agreed for a telephonic interview at a later time. Why should we have agreed to a telephonic interview after travelling so far? More upon so as not to save the time and effort we put in, we literally had to beg the PR at the event, who in turn, tried coaxing Badshah and the team to agree what we were promised taking us for fools, they decided to have the exclusive interview on stage in front of all the paps.

Pray tell how this qualifies as an exclusive interview? We even agreed to this, because our time and effort were already wasted but requested that the paps turn their cameras off while we went on stage with him - the same stage that was used to host the event and where exclusive interviews are never done.

Once again, these requests fell on deaf ears as Badshah and his team stated that the paps couldn't turn off their cameras, which is understandable since the paps would never agree to this as long as a celebrity can be shot.

The thing is that Badshah and his team, both were well aware about this and it seemed like they were only taking us for a ride, knowing full well, that we couldn't agree to this in the name of exclusivity and would have to walk away from them, which we eventually did.

Crest fallen, disappointed and treated as lesser humans, what we would like to ask Badshah and his team is, if his time is important, doesn't that apply for others too? Or just because we aren’t celebrities like him, aren't as popular as him, don't have fans screaming our names, don’t have paps lining to capture us, we can be treated like dirt, lied to. Our trust broken and our time and efforts completely devalued.

Badshah’s team need to understand and value the time and efforts of other people instead of riding on high horse as if the world circles around them.

Mr. Badshah, please don't treat other people like dirt henceforth. Everyone's time and efforts are as precious as yours.
