MUMBAI: There’s absolutely no doubt that the 4-times National Award winner Kangana Ranaut is a great actress but finally she has proven that there was an amazing director hidden within her, with Emergency. Hindi Cinema has done great with the thriller genre but when it comes to its sub-genre Political Thriller, the industry or the directors have not explored this so well.

Finally, at the start of 2025, Kangana Ranaut has given us a political thriller like Emergency. With such a controversial topic, the actress has not just attempted but succeeded with flying colors. When we talk about some of the best political thriller movies like Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, Oliver Stone’s JFK and George Clooney’s The Ides of March, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency definitely comes close to these movies and it’s all because of Kangana Ranaut’s direction.
The movie presents a perfect balance in showing Indira Gandhi’s good and bad qualities. The amazing part is that along with this balance, she has also made the movie so gripping that one won’t be able to take their eyes off it from the beginning to its end.
Yes, time and again, we have witnessed Kangana’s acting skills in previous movies and she has been amazing but in this movie, the way she has taken over the character of Indira Gandhi with her mannerisms, voice modulation, her way of ‘being’ Indira Gandhi, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Kangana Ranaut earns her 5th National Award for her performance.
Tellychakkar gives this movie 4/5 stars.
