MUMBAI: Radhika Madan is a star on the rise, with invigorating performances and thrilling roles in store for her, adding more versatile performances in a year that has already been great for her genre-wise, the actor is back in a role that is going to entertain and invoke emotions and thoughts.
Her latest is a social thriller, titled Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video, also starring Nimrat Kaur Bhagyashree, Bhave, and Chinmay Mandlekar. Produced by Dinesh Vijian’s Maddock Films, the film deals with the idea of what social media can do when it comes to our lives and what happens when we cross those boundaries.
TellyChakkar got in touch with the actor to talk about her new movie, her being the youngest member of the International Emmy’s Jury, her year in review, and her upcoming projects.
Opening up about what the movie is about, she said, “It is a social thriller, not as much a whodunnit?, because people don’t know what has happened to Sajini, It is just a social thriller and it is so important, such a relevant subject especially in the day and age of social media, where the maximum validation we seek is from that, and the repercussions of social media in our lives, in the lives of our loved ones. I think it is a very very important film, and I just wanted to be a part of it to tell that story, so that next time we judge somebody, we just think before jumping to any conclusions”.
When asked about how deals with social media being such a part of her life as an actor, and if that played a part in preparing for this role, she said, “I would say that on a subconscious level, yes, we are kind of used to it now, and we know how to kind of ignore it now, but for Sajini it was happening for the first time, and I had to go back and delve into the feelings, of when an article or a video came out, which got trolled, or things came out in a way in which they were not intended to be such, tap into that helplessness and the want or the need to express your true self to people and I think I just went with that emotion. When it comes to me personally now I think I would like to believe that I have become thick-skinned and that I tend to ignore things more, but that is because of the support of my parents, they are extremely wise, and so supportive, and they would say that hey you are working in this industry, you need to take things in a certain way, and be thick-skinned and even my mentors here, I have always luckily been guided well, and I feel blessed for that”.
On her association with Maddock and Dinesh Vijian, she said, “I would say Maddock is like family right now, Dinu saw something in me that I couldn’t see in myself, and he has always challenged me with the amazing role, from Angrezi medium to Shanta in Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, Shiddat, Sajini now and I have just finished another project with them right now which is yet to be announced, I think I owe my career to Dinu for believing in me so much and the directors that I have found there, Homi is like family to me, he is my go-to for any trouble in my life. I can’t tell you how grateful I feel to find my family here in Bombay, because I am an outsider, I feel accepted, loved, and believed, in such an industry is so inspiring that it makes me work even harder. I cannot take Maddock ever for granted, with every single project I make it a point, that I am going in with much more hunger, and much more zeal because I need to keep proving to them because they are putting their belief in me, so I feel the pressure even more, that I need to prove them right, that hey I can do this as well so that they don’t doubt their choices, they have created such a safe space for me, I wish I can do 10 more Maddock films”.
