Farah revealed in a recent interview that she and her brother, Sajid Khan, were viewed as "poor cousins" because their father wasn't as successful as other people.

Recalling her early years, Farah revealed that when she was only five years old, her father lost everything due to the failure of his film. She claimed that the rest of the family saw them as 'charity cases' because of their "riches to rags" tale. Farah's father began drinking alcohol after losing all of his wealth and he died when she was only eighteen.

Speaking more about her family, Farah stated, “Yes, I belonged to a filmy family, but by the time I turned five, we were the poor cousins. We’d lost all our money, dad’s film had flopped. We had a riches to rags story. So, they were all rocking, and we were the charity cases. Sajid and me and our mother were the charity cases. But, of course, they were very nice to us. They let us stay in their house.”

Farah Khan previously said in a conversation with Maniesh Paul that her father had only Rs. 30 in his pocket when he died. The director also disclosed that she and her brother had difficulty coming up with the necessary funds for their father's funeral. Farah further mentioned that her brother had already told the same tale on Bigg Boss.

She added, “The night before, he had played taash (cards) and the only money he had in his pocket was the Rs 30 he had won from those games. Sajid also shared this story on Bigg Boss, explaining how we had to gather funds from various sources to arrange for our father’s funeral.”

Sajid Khan, the well-known actor, and brother of Farah Khan, had talked candidly about their father. During an interview on the Time Out With Ankit YouTube channel, the 53-year-old filmmaker disclosed that following his birth, his father had stopped producing B-grade films.

Sajid revealed that his father had chosen to work with Sanjeev Kumar on an A-grade film,, “He decided to make an A-grade big film with Sanjeev Kumar. That film never got made. Aadhi picture karke Sanjeev Kumar bhaag gaya. My father lost all his money. Then my father became an alcoholic, and my parents got divorced.”
