Producer Vashu Bhagnani and debutant director Syed Ahmad Afzal have much to rejoice about . Their political drama Youngistaan has opened to a good response everywhere.
And the team is already planning a sequel.
“Yes , we’ve story for Youngistaan 2. And seeing the response we’ll go ahead with it. At the end of Youngistaan Jackie’s character becomes the Prime Minister. But the actual mazaa begins after that. What happens after he’s sworn in? How does he handle the pressures of his job? I think there is a major story waiting to be told there,” says the director who’s a first-generation filmmaker in his family.
Adds Vashu Bhagnani, “We are getting encouraging reports from all across the country. We had planned a sequel to Youngistaan all along. The success of the first part only makes us more confident of carrying on the story. We had hoped that somewhere the story of a young non-political Indian taking over the reins of the country would touch the junta’s heart in this charged electoral environment. I think we’ve succeeded.”
As the numbers for Youngistaan come in Jackky Bhagnani misses his mentor the most. “I owe this success to Faroque Sheikh Saab. He was the project’s guiding light. Without him I don’t feel the joy of success. And I wonder how we can make the sequel without Faroque Saab! No one can fill the vacuum he has left behind.”
