MUMBAI: According to actor Gulshan Devaiah, experimenting with humour in a scene gives him the opportunity to give the characters on screen more nuance.
Humour, according to Gulshan, is always a terrific addition to a scene since it may change the course of the story completely while keeping its core.
He said, "If we can find humour in a scene, it's always a great add-on. It allows me to open a small window and add another dimension to the scene or the character that I'm portraying. With a story like 'Bad Cop', which is supposed to be entertaining, wherever there was a scope to explore humour, I would jump onto it without going beyond the realms of the character."
He went on to discuss how he and his co-actor came up with a novel interpretation of a moment from his recently launched streaming series that was written differently on paper.
He said, "There was a scene about salutes and handshakes, it was not there in the script. My co-actor and I improvised on that bit but only after consulting our director Aditya Datt."
According to the actor, the director's job in this kind of situation is to ensure that all of the performers stay within their characters and to simplify the performances.
Presently, Gulshan plays two roles in the movie "Bad Cop," which co-stars Anurag Kashyap. He played the role of "4 Cut Atmaram" in the beloved webseries "Guns & Gulaabs" in the past. The actor received praise for his portrayal of a cold-blooded contract killer who slashes his victims four times to inflict the most amount of damage.
