MUMBAI : An entry on the Los Angeles Superior Court docket states that Jennifer Lopez and husband Ben Affleck are formally divorcing. On Tuesday, the anniversary of their 2022 wedding ceremony in Riceboro, Georgia, where they first eloped in Las Vegas a month earlier, Lopez filed for the dissolution of their two-year marriage in Los Angeles.
The couple reportedly living separately, Lopez canceled her summer tour to spend more time with her family, and they sold their Beverly Hills house. A love tale between two stars that has unfolded in the public eye for decades takes a new turn with their divorce.
After meeting on the set of the comedy 'Gigli,' where they both played criminals stuck on a job together, Lopez and Affleck’s marriage came more than 20 years later. Their friendship from that time on became a relationship.
They both got married and started families over time. However, after they reconciled in 2021, Team "Bennifer" rejoiced in Bennifer 2.0. The two seemed delighted even.
“You know, one of the things I really value across all facets of my life now is that it was handled in a way that reflected that,” Affleck told The Wall Street Journal in December 2021. “My life now reflects not just the person that I want to be, but the person that I really feel like I am – which is not perfect, but somebody who tries very hard and cares very much about being honest and authentic and accountable. It’s hard to say who benefits more, without going into gossipy detail.”
The couple initially got engaged in November 2002 after Affleck popped the question with a custom 6.1-carat pink diamond ring from Harry Winston. He also appeared as Lopez’s love interest in the music video for her 2002 single “Jenny from the Block,” the storyline of which takes on the paparazzi treatment of their relationship.
The couple postponed their wedding a few days before it was due to take place in September 2003, citing "excessive media attention" surrounding their wedding.
At the time, CNN was informed by sources that the pair was "taking a break." In January 2004, they separated officially. Thus, when the pair made their Instagram debut in July 2021 it seemed like a dream come true a few months after Lopez called off her engagement to baseball legend Alex Rodriguez.
“I feel so lucky and happy and proud to be with him,” Affleck proposed to Lopez a second time in April 2022, just weeks before Lopez spoke to People magazine about getting back together “It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance.”
The documentary, "The Greatest Love Story Never Told," which Lopez released in 2024, documented her decades-long search for self-love as well as the tale of her independently produced album "This Is Me... Now."
Affleck stated in the movie that he learned to "compromise" with Lopez on her wish to share more details about their personal lives with the public.
